Getting started
Joining a hunt
- Open the app and choose Play a hunt.
- Pick a published hunt from the list.
- Enter your team’s name. This is how your progress and score are identified — use the same name every time so you can pick up where you left off.
- Allow location access when prompted. The map centers on you and shows every station.
Completing a station
Tap a marker on the map to open its details. The clue text — and the ability to submit an answer — only appears once you’re within about 15 meters of the actual location. This is intentional: it keeps the hunt an outdoor, on-foot experience rather than something solvable from a screenshot at home.
Depending on the task, you’ll either type a short text answer or take a photo with the in-app camera. Once submitted, the station is marked complete and its points are added to your team’s total.
Checking your progress
Use the Progress screen to see which stations are done, how many remain, and how many points you’ve earned. From there — or from a station’s detail screen — you can tap Show on map to jump straight back to any station’s location.
The leaderboard
Open the leaderboard from the map toolbar or the Progress screen to see every team’s total points and completed-task count for the current hunt, ranked live as answers come in.
Creating your own hunt (organisers)
From the home screen, choose Editor and sign in with your organiser account. Once signed in you’ll stay signed in on that device until you explicitly tap Log out.
- New hunt creates an empty hunt you can start adding stations to.
- Each station has a name, clue text, a map location, and an answer type — text or photo — plus a point value from 1 to 3 depending on difficulty.
- A hunt stays a draft (hidden from players) until you switch on Published.

Permissions the app asks for
| Location (While Using) | Shows your position on the map and determines when you’re close enough to a station for its clue to unlock. Location is never collected or sent anywhere beyond what’s needed to run the hunt on your device. |

Troubleshooting
The clue won’t unlock even though I’m at the station
Make sure Location access is set to While Using the App in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Outdoor Fun Hunt. GPS accuracy can vary near buildings or dense trees — try stepping into a more open spot, and give it a few seconds for your position to settle.
My progress disappeared
Progress is tied to the exact team name you typed (not case-sensitive, extra spaces are ignored). If you re-enter a hunt, use precisely the same team name to resume where you left off.
I don’t have signal at the hunt location
That’s fine — hunts and their instructions are stored on your device, and your answers keep saving locally even without a connection. They’ll sync automatically the next time you’re back online.
The camera button doesn’t do anything
On devices or Simulators without a camera, the app falls back to your photo library automatically. On a real device, check that Camera access is allowed in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
I can’t sign in to the editor
Editor access requires an organiser account created by the hunt administrator — it is not a public sign-up. Contact us if you need one.
Privacy
Outdoor Fun Hunt only collects what’s needed to run and score a hunt: your team name, submitted answers, and whether a photo task was completed. We don’t sell or share this data with third parties, and location is used purely to run the game on your device — it isn’t tracked or stored beyond what a hunt itself needs.
